These characteristics are inherent in the personality of the American Venezuelan leader Gustavo Garagorry, who is currently running for Commissioner of Seat #4 on the Doral City Council in Florida, in the midterm elections to be held on November 4, 2026.
Innate leadership and civic commitment
In an interview with www.venezuelaredinformativa.us, the candidate confessed that he is running for this office because he has a passion for public service. His civic engagement is evident in his role as president of the Venezuelan American Republican Club (VARC) and president of the Millennia Atlantic University Alumni Association. He has also been involved in organizing several fundraising events for the food bank, which has motivated him to raise awareness and support for other charitable organizations. He has also distinguished himself as a consultant and public relations professional at Ataxmar, LLC, enriching the company with his talents and experience in strategy and communication. This is in addition to his 20
years of professional experience. Similarly, in his native Venezuela, he has left an indelible mark in the technology sector at Onital and Eniac companies, excelling as a software expert.
He has also demonstrated his leadership skills in the agro-industrial sector as IT director at Diproagro.
Political experience
His resume, which details his political, professional, and academic background, reflects his innate versatility and ability to drive efficiently in various sectors. Based on this, he appears to have the necessary credentials to become a city council member, thanks to his direct connection to the city of Doral, where he resides. In other words, he knows the needs of its residents firsthand. Regarding his journey in politics, he explains that he first became involved with the Venezuelan Business Club, «thanks to its founding president, Miguel Villarroel, who gave me that opportunity.» Garagorry acknowledges that this was his
springboard «to connect with political figures such as governors, senators, congressmen, mayors, and city council members.» Consequently, this experience guarantees a more responsive and committed representation for his community.
-What motivated you to run for Doral City Council?
-I reiterate that I have always been passionate about public service. I am confident that I can make a positive difference. In other words, I can help address some of the most pressing issues facing our city, including improving access to affordable housing and promoting economic development. I am committed to working collaboratively with my fellow council members and community stakeholders to achieve these goals.
Candidate Garagorry emphasizes that his main motivation stems from his experience gained in the city of Doral. He adds that in 2014 he actively entered the field of politics, thanks to Pete Cabrera, when he won the election as City Councilman in Doral: “That was a learning experience for me. There I served as a legislative analyst”.
“I was involved in every department of the city,” he recalls, adding that he later supported the candidacy of former councilwoman Sandra Ruiz, “who, after winning, invited me to participate in the Cultural Affairs Committee, where I served as vice president”.
He also participated in eight sessions for the preparation of the city’s budget.
Furthermore, he knows the city’s geography very well. In short, it has been eight years of intense activity, during which he played a decisive role in local administration, contributing to the well-being of Doral residents and the implementation of key policies.
Specific proposals and solid strategies
He affirms that she is motivated to legislate with transparency and commitment for the benefit of her community. “I have witnessed the growth of the city of Doral, accompanying it from its early years to its consolidation as a mature and dynamic city. I have experience and a deep understanding of the city, gained from working alongside various municipal administrators, which allowed me to understand firsthand how public affairs are managed and resolved. Public administration has complexities and nuances that require responsibility, sound judgment, and a vision focused on the common good, as its decisions directly impact the well-being and quality of life of our residents”.
-And what are your specific proposals to boost the local economy?
-Regarding the local economy, it is essential to work in coordination with multiple organizations in the public and private sectors. However, from the mayor’s office, it is crucial to promote more robust and structured strategies for the city’s economic development. This involves creating initiatives that attract new business and commercial opportunities to Doral.
I also consider it key to strengthen relationships with the consulates of various countries, encouraging international companies to establish operations in our city, which will translate into greater investment and the creation of new jobs for our residents.
-And what are your specific proposals to boost the local economy? How would you go about building relationships with other members of the City Council?
-Through direct and ongoing dialogue. Building strong relationships with the other members of the City Council and with the various community stakeholders is essential to effectively serving our residents. My approach would be based on active listening, transparency, and collaborative work, fostering an environment of cooperation, trust, and mutual respect. Only in this way can we generate genuine consensus that allows us to make responsible decisions for the common good.
What would you do to approach the budget process as a member of the City Council?
-I would apply a responsible, strategic, and results-oriented approach, based on the experience I’ve gained working within the city. As a council member, I would prioritize a budget that responds to the real needs of our residents, aligning available resources with the community’s top priorities. This includes identifying opportunities to optimize costs, reducing unnecessary spending, and consolidating services whenever possible, while simultaneously strengthening essential areas such as public safety, infrastructure, and economic development. I would also work in coordination with the other council members, the city administration, and community stakeholders, ensuring a transparent, collaborative budget process focused on the efficient use of public resources.
-How would you balance the needs and priorities of your constituents with the broader goals of the city?
-I understand the importance of striking a responsible balance between the immediate needs of our residents and the long-term vision for the city. To achieve this, I would maintain constant communication with constituents, gathering direct feedback on their concerns and expectations, and carefully evaluating the impact of every decision. This process would be carried out in close collaboration with the other members of the City Council, the city administration, and various community stakeholders, with the goal of ensuring that public policies serve the common good. I would also pay particular attention to the specific priorities of our community, such as expanding access to affordable housing and promoting
sustainable transportation alternatives that improve the quality of life in Doral.
Memories of his native Venezuela
Although he has been living in the United States for years, he affirms that his connection to Venezuela remains intact. “And it will never fade. I only remember its wonders: Pico Espejo in the Sierra Nevada of Mérida, the spectacular Delta Amacuro, San Juan de los Morros with its resorts and exquisite hot springs, the afternoons of bullfighting, and the beautiful beaches of Sucre state. I also miss my surfing days. But I am deeply saddened by what my compatriots have gone through. I have faith in God that, with the leadership of President Donald Trump and the support of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Venezuela
will rise from the ashes”.
